    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

The nature of painting on velvet is a multi-layered process as the paint will dull slightly when it dries. Break the painting up into stages, checking back when it's dry and adding more Silver to areas where you would like more coverage.

    1. Map out a large circle in chalk or mark with tape or string. (If you have a large round object that is the appropriate size, use this to trace.) Cover the entirety of the pillowcase with the circle, leaving about 1' from the edge for a border.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Fill in the edge of the circle in Silver. Map out the layout of the moon. (Refer to images online, final project photo, or make up your own.) Remember the moon has craters, so leave some areas intentionally dark and unpainted.
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Fill in the areas previously mapped out and build up the coverage using Silver. (Adding more water to the Silver thins it out to a watercolor consistency and allows for an interesting mark as well. Experiment using both consistencies of the paint, watered down and from the tube, to achieve more visual interest.) Let dry.
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Once the moon is built up and has dried, use the watercolor mix that was made in the last step to splatter across the moon and add a bit more visual interest. If it splatters outside of the moon and that look is not desired, before it completely dries, wipe it out with your finger and it will disappear.
