Painted Halloween Monster Rocks

Add a little whimsey to Halloween décor with these monster rocks, created with Americana® Multi-Surface Acrylics.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- newspaper
- rocks
- fine tip paintbrush
- #10 flat paintbrush
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Protect the work surface with a sheet of newspaper or parchment paper.
Wash the rock and let it dry completely before painting.
Allow paint to fully dry between steps and when changing to a new color.
Repeat with as many coats as needed to achieve desired coverage.
- Rock 1: Paint the surface of the rock in Pumpkin Patch.
- Mix equal parts of Pumpkin Patch and Cotton Ball. Use mix to paint two irregular circular shapes for the eyes and a small rounded square shape for the nose. (See photo.) Save mix for STEP EIGHT.
- Paint an irregular triangular shape in Lipstick for the mouth.
- Paint another set of smaller irregular circular shaped eyes over the light orange shapes in Cotton Ball.
- Paint two different sized teeth in Cotton Ball over the red mouth shape.
- Using the handle end of a large paintbrush, dab two different sized pupils inside the eyeballs in Black Tie.
- Following the shape at the bottom of each eyeball, paint thin curved lines in Lipstick.
- Add a long rounded rectangle over the eye in the mix from STEP TWO.
- Add thin intersecting lines in Lipstick to resemble stitches. (See photo.)
- Rock 2: Paint the surface of the rock in Eggplant.
- Mix equal parts of Eggplant and Cotton Ball. Using an angled fine tip paintbrush, paint a large oval shape off center on the rock for the single eye placement. Also paint a small rounded square shape for the nose. Save mix for STEP 15.
- Paint a thin straight line in Lipstick for the mouth.
- Paint another slightly smaller oval shape inside the light purple oval and one tooth in Cotton Ball.
- Paint a large pupil inside the eyeball in Black Tie.
- Add a long rounded rectangle beside the eye in the mix from STEP 11. Add thin intersecting lines in Lipstick to resemble stitches.
- Following the shape at the bottom of the eyeball, paint a thin curved line in Lipstick.
- Rock 3: Paint the surface of the rock in Apple Green.
- Mix equal parts of Apple Green and Cotton Ball. Using a fine tip paintbrush, paint two irregular circular shapes for the eyes and a small rounded square shape for the nose. Save mix for STEP 23.
- Paint an irregular upside down triangular shape for the mouth in Lipstick.
- With Cotton Ball, paint another set of smaller irregular circular shaped eyes over the light green shapes and three different sized teeth over the mouth.
- Use the handle end of a large paintbrush to dab two different sized pupils inside the eyeballs in Black Tie.
- Following the shape at the bottom of each eyeball, paint thin curved lines in Lipstick.
- Add a long boomerang shape over the eyes in the mix from STEP 18. Add thin intersecting lines in Lipstick to resemble stitches.
