Soon those mischievous and magical little leprechauns will be on the hunt for gold. This St. Patrick's Day, stop those pesky little leprechauns from stealing your gold with a colorful and fun DIY Leprechaun Trap House.  

It's a tradition at our house to design and create a St. Patrick's Day leprechaun trap and this year we decided to create a colorful and shimmery house to lure those wee little leprechauns in. We've never actually gotten a good look at one, but we are hopeful that this DIY Leprechaun Trap House will do the trick this year!

There are so many ways you can create your own leprechaun trap with recycled supplies, printables, paper, and paint. My kids loved the idea of painting a wooden house with some of our favorite DecoArt paints. We also thought this craft would be the perfect project to test out the new Galaxy Glitter paint.

Instructions:

The wooden house that we found had a fence all around the porch, but we wanted our house to be open and inviting for the leprechauns so we used a craft knife to cut out a small section in front of the door.

We know that leprechauns love the color green so we decided to paint our entire house two different shades of green.  

If there is anything leprechauns love more than the color green it is GOLD, so we decided to add a shimmery gold layer to the roof using the Galaxy Glitter gold paint. What I love about this paint is the fact that the glitter covers so well. While we decided to add gold glitter to our green roof, I love the fact that the Galaxy Glitter pairs well with the Americana Acrylics, and DecoArt has provided a guide to which glitter paint pairs well with each base coat to give you optimal coverage.

Once we painted the main part of the house it was time to add the colorful accents. We used bright colors from the rainbow to paint the windows, door, and fence. The front porch also received a dusting of the Gold Shooting Star Galaxy Glitter paint, just to be sure our little leprechaun wouldn't be able to resist coming to the house.

Now that the house is all ready it's time to create a trap to hopefully capture that sneaky little leprechaun. I printed out Leprechaun Trap printables and attached them to the house. We plan to lure him to our colorful Leprechaun Trap House with a giant pot of gold coins because we all know leprechauns can't resist stealing gold.

We glued a piece of twine to the upstairs window and placed the end of it near a small pile of gold coins so that when the leprechaun walks up to the coins it will be caught up in the rope and hoisted into the window, trapping him inside.  

This colorful DIY Leprechaun Trap House is a fun way to get the kids involved and excited about St. Patrick's Day. It's also a great learning opportunity for them to problem solve and think through creative ways to trap those mischievous little leprechauns. We are keeping our fingers crossed that this will be the year we finally capture one!
