4th of July Wood Coasters

4th of July Wood Coasters

Posted by DecoArt on Jun 29th 2014

I can't believe how quickly July 4th is coming!  I feel like yesterday I was decorating for Christmas and now we are half way through the year again! Boy time flies!  But even so, my kids LOVE the 4th of July almost as much as they love Christmas, so we always have a lot of fun decorating and creating Patriotic crafts this time of year!

Today I am going to show you a really fun and simple idea: 4th of July Wood Coasters

Items Needed:

  • Foam Brush
  • Vinyl, Star Stickers Or Pencil
  • Wood Slice Coasters
  • Water Basin

Instructions:

First you will want to create your star shape.  I cut a star shaped out of vinyl using my Silhouette, but you could also cut one out by hand with scissors or an exacto knife, use star stickers purchased at a store, or simply use a pencil to draw a star shape onto your wood.  Whichever you prefer!

Because I used vinyl as a stencil, I simply placed my star shaped vinyl in the middle of my wood coaster and then used my foam brush to paint 1-2 coats of Americana Chalky Paint in Legacy over it.

I left a bit of a border around the edge of my wood, but you can do this any way you prefer.

Once the paint was dry, I removed my star shape and the beautiful wood showed through in a pretty star shape!

Then you will want to protect your pretty new coasters by applying outdoor Decoupage. This will help seal the wood and protect it from water.

After you let that dry you have a brand new set of beautiful Patriotic Coasters ready to use for your next get-together or anytime!

I just love how these turned out and I can't wait to create more!  And I am absolutely in LOVE with Americana's Chalky Paint!
