Using a hand saw, roughen the edges of the wooden sign and create nicks and scratches within the surface. Sand the surface smooth while leaving the nicks and scratches visible. Wipe away any sanding dust with a damp paper towel.
Mix together (2) parts Burnt Umber with (1) part Lamp Black. Mix this mix with an equal part of Staining/Antiquing Medium. Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint one slat at a time in the mix. Save the mix for the next step. Wipe away the paint with a paper towel to reveal the wood grain. Repeat until the entire sign is covered.
Using the mix from the previous step and a 3/4" flat brush, create a dark border around the sign. (Paint in a circular motion and allow the paint to fade as it reaches the center.) Do not wipe the paint back.
Position the Value Kraft Cauldron Stencil onto the center of the sign. Hold in place with painter's tape. Using a cosmetic sponge, apply Snow White to all the lettering. Apply Lamp Black to the cauldron and Foliage Green to the bubbles using a small stencil brush.
Using a #2 round brush, paint bats (refer to pattern) onto the outside edges of the sign. Paint the bats in a mix of (2) parts Snow White and (1) part Burnt Umber.
