INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Tear pieces of the vintage paper with text into smaller pieces.
    Step 0 Example
  2. Using Ultra-Matte Varnish, decoupage on papers onto the backing of the shadow box. Use the straight edge pieces for the outside to create clean lines. Let dry.
    Step 1 Example
  3. Once dry, paint over the papers with Coastal Waters, allow some of the text to show through.
    Step 2 Example
  4. Once completely dry, add the stencil mask (sticker or silhouette) with a sentiment of your choice.
    Step 3 Example
  5. Paint Vanilla Shake over the stencil. (It is important to carefully remove the stencil while the paint is still wet.) Let dry.
    Step 4 Example
  6. Once completely dry, use a black fine-tip marker to outline the lettering.
  7. Use a pencil to mark where the jar will be; add marks where the drill holes will be.
    Step 6 Example
  8. Using the transfer paper, transfer the pattern onto the shadow box where the mouth of the jar will be placed.
  9. Basecoat some flowers in Iris; add shadows in Lavender Fields. Basecoat some flowers in Soft Jade and add a small amount of Black Tie for shadows. For the pink flowers, paint in Ballerina and add Pink Cadillac for shadows. Use School Bus for all flower centers and Black Tie for shadows. Use a #3 round brush for all flowers. (Refer to final photo for color placement and shadowing.)
  10. Mix Chartreuse with a small amount of Black Tie. Mix Chartreuse with Vanilla Shake. Paint both mixes into the foliage. (Refer to final project photo for color placement.) Use Chartreuse and Black Tie for detail lines. Use the tip of a finger or the handle end of the paintbrush to add dots of Chartreuse to the upper half of the shadow box.
    Step 9 Example
  11. Drill holes for the jar wires using a electric drill and coordinating drill bit.
