- Carbon Black (DAT42)
- Light Pearl (Metallic) (DAT48)
- Medium Green (DAT17)
- Naphthol Red (DAT02)
- Phthalo Green-Blue (DAT23)
- Prussian Blue Hue (DAT25)
Other supplies
- pencil
- #4 round brush
- #1 flat shader brush
- circle template (small cup, shot glass)
- toothpicks
- 4" x 12" canvas (Michaels)
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.
- Using an appropriately sized round template (small cup base, shot glass, etc), sketch out the watermelon design on the blank canvas. (See photo.) Basecoat the canvas using Light Pearl (Metallic).
- Paint in the watermelon rinds using Medium Green.
- Paint the insides of the watermelons Naphthol Red. (Keep the edges jagged where bites would have occurred.)
- Add shading using Phthalo Green-Blue and Prussian Blue Hue. (The center watermelon needs to be shaded to emphasize its roundness.)
- Add highlights with Light Pearl (Metallic) and finalize the shading. Add seeds using a toothpick dipped in Carbon Black.
