INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Using an appropriately sized round template (small cup base, shot glass, etc), sketch out the watermelon design on the blank canvas. (See photo.) Basecoat the canvas using Light Pearl (Metallic).
  2. Paint in the watermelon rinds using Medium Green.
  3. Paint the insides of the watermelons Naphthol Red. (Keep the edges jagged where bites would have occurred.)
  4. Add shading using Phthalo Green-Blue and Prussian Blue Hue. (The center watermelon needs to be shaded to emphasize its roundness.)
  5. Add highlights with Light Pearl (Metallic) and finalize the shading. Add seeds using a toothpick dipped in Carbon Black.
