  • large flat brush
  • white transfer paper
  • wooden sign
  • cup hooks
  • small flat brush

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. If needed, sand the sign for a smooth finish. (The smoother the wood is, the better staining effect you achieve.)
    Step 0 Example
  2. Mix together brown and black to create a dark brown. Brush the mix onto one slat of the wooden sign at a time. Before the paint dries, wipe back the paint to reveal the wood grain. Repeat until the entire sign is covered.
    Step 1 Example
  3. Transfer the provided pattern onto the sign. Using a flat and a round brush, paint in the pattern using an off-white. Use a dry-brush technique to get the sunrays to fade.
    Step 2 Example
  4. Sand the sign surface lightly, concentrating on the text and sun painted white.
    Step 3 Example
  5. Screw cup hooks as desired into the bottom of the sign to hang coffee cups.
