"Merry Christmas" Vintage Truck Hanging

A vintage trunk delivers the trappings of Christmas in this wall hanging.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • #6 flat brush
    • #1 liner brush
    • #1 round brush
    • pen or pencil
    • wooden frame wall hanging

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Use a pen or pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the pattern to the inside of the frame. Omit the words for now.
    2. Use a #6 flat brush and Waterfront to basecoat the entire truck. Rinse brush. Use a #1 round brush to mix (1) part Waterfront with (1) part Cotton Ball. Use the mix with the same brush to highlight areas on the truck. Rinse brush.

    4. Use a #6 flat brush and Cotton Ball to paint the snow on the ground. Rinse brush.

    6. Use a #6 flat brush to mix (1) part Baby Blue with (1) part Cotton Ball. Use the mix with the same brush to paint the sky. Turn the brush on its side to shade the snow under the truck. Rinse brush.

    8. Use the #6 flat brush and Pewter to paint the far left mountain. Use the same brush to add a small amount of Baby Blue to the dirty brush, making a new mix for the middle mountain. Rinse brush. Use the #1 liner brush with the Pewter/Baby Blue mix for the truck mirror, step, and bumper. Outline the truck details with Pewter. Rinse brush.

    10. Use the #1 round brush to mix (1) part Waterfront with (1) part Baby Blue. Use the mix to paint the last mountain and the window and windshield of the truck. Rinse brush.

    12. Use a #1 round brush and Muted Gold to paint the dog's head and body. Add a small amount of Cotton Ball to the dirty brush and, with that new mix, paint the dog's chest and inside of the ear. Rinse brush.
    13. Use a #1 round brush and Turf Green to paint the Christmas tree in the truck and the wreath on the truck. Rinse brush. Use the same brush and Green Beret to paint the background evergreen trees. Rinse brush. Use the #1 liner brush and Green Beret to add detail to the Christmas tree and wreath in the truck. Rinse brush. Use the #1 liner brush with Turf Green to add detail to the background trees. Rinse brush.

    15. Use a #1 round brush to mix a small amount of water with Pewter; shade the mountains and truck with the mix. Rinse brush. Use the #1 liner brush with Red Barn to paint the dog's tongue and bow on the wreath. Rinse brush. Use the #1 round brush and Black Tie to paint on the tires. Rinse brush.

    17. Use a #1 liner brush and Coffee Bean to paint the fence in the background. Rinse brush.

    19. Use the #1 round brush and Cotton Ball to paint the falling snow; the snow on the mountains, truck, and fence; the outlining; and the parts of the tire. Rinse brush. Use a #6 flat brush and Red Barn to paint the outer frame. Rinse brush. Let dry completely.

    21. Use a pen or pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the words "Merry Christmas" on the frame.

    23. Use the #1 liner brush and Waterfront to paint the words "Merry Christmas" on the frame. Rinse brush.
