Side-Stenciled Vintage Jewelry Cabinet

Color and stencil an old cabinet into new life with Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint.

SUPPLIES

    • soft cloth
    • painter's tape
    • screwdriver
    • stencil brush
    • large flat brush
    • jewelry cabinet
    • small flat brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Thoroughly clean the cabinet surface. Remove all hardware from the cabinet.

    3. Attach painter's tape around the front of each cabinet drawer to prevent paint from going beyond the edges.

    5. Paint each drawer in a different color using two coats of Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in the following shades: Refreshing (shown), Heritage (shown), Whisper, Escape, and Enchanted.

    7. Paint the edges of the jewelry cabinet, as well as the inside panels plus the inside of the bottom doors with two coats of Vintage.

    9. Paint the top of the jewelry cabinet as well as the outside panels with two coats of Enchanted.

    11. Paint the sides and top of each side panel with two coats of Escape.

    13. Paint the bottom of the cabinet as well as the feet with two coats of Heritage.

    15. Attach painter's tape on each side of the thin strip that separates the Enchanted and Escape colors on each door panel. Paint that strip with two coats of Vintage to match the other edges of the jewelry cabinet.

    17. Carefully remove the painter's tape while the paint is still wet.

    19. Paint the mirror inside the jewelry cabinet with two coats of Refreshing. Use painter's tape to mask off areas you don't want painted. Paint the inside lid of the cabinet with two coats of Enchanted.

    21. Using the Jacobean Floral Stencil, paint the full design onto each half of the cabinet lid in Refreshing. Use a stencil brush or cosmetic sponge. Reposition the stencil until the top is covered.

    23. Stencil the Jacobean Floral full design twice onto each cabinet door panel in Refreshing. Stencil the berry border design from the Brocade & Berry Borders Stencil onto the bottom third of each door panel with Refreshing. Use a stencil brush or cosmetic sponge.

    25. Apply Clear Crème Wax to all painted surfaces. Let dry. Once dry, apply Deep Brown Crème Wax to all waxed surfaces. Remove any excess wax with a clean soft cloth.

    27. Paint the cabinet hardware with two coats of Rustic. For the second coat, apply the paint with the side of the brush, dabbing it on thicker in some spots than others.

    29. Dab Relic and Carbon onto the drawer handles using a small paintbrush.

    31. Go over everything with another coat of Rustic, making sure to let the other colors show through in various spots. Touch up to your liking.

    33. Attach the hardware to the jewelry cabinet doors and drawers. Using a tiny paintbrush, apply a dot of Rustic onto the top of each screw to complete the rusty look.
