Valentine's Pillow Ornaments

Celebrate love with these heart-shaped accents, perfect for hanging in a kitchen or entryway.

SUPPLIES

  • water container
  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • #10 flat brush
  • sewing machine or needle and thread
  • paper
  • #1 liner brush
  • button
  • #1 round brush
  • stuffing
  • tassel
  • muslin
  • pinking shears

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES:

Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Use a pencil to trace and transfer a basic heart shape onto any paper and cut out with scissors.
  2. Pin a heart in place over two small pieces of muslin or fabric of your choice. Cut out with scissors. Repeat for a total of three hearts.

  4. Keep the muslin doubled up and stitch around the edge, leaving a 2" long hole for stuffing.

  6. Use pinking shears to add a decorative edge.

  8. Add the stuffing to the hearts.

  10. Stitch the hearts closed.

  12. Use a #10 flat brush and Flamingo to paint one entire heart. Use the same brush and Lipstick for the second heart, and leave the third one plain, just paint the edges with Flamingo.

  14. Use #10 flat brush and Lipstick to float half-circle shapes around the border of the Flamingo heart. Use the same brush and color to paint a smaller heart in the center. Use a #1 round brush to paint "XO" inside the center heart.
  15. On the reverse side of the Flamingo heart, use a #1 round brush and load Lipstick to add small hearts.

  17. Use a #1 round brush and Lipstick to add small hearts to the plain heart. Rinse brush. Use the same brush and Black Tie to add the word "love".
  18. Repeat the application of small hearts using #1 round brush and Flamingo on the Lipstick heart.
  19. Sew on ribbon and a button to hold it.

  21. (Optional) Add tassels if you would like. Hang heart ornaments from a curtain rod in the kitchen or over the center of a doorway.
