Upcycled Golden Magic Wand

Americana Enchanted Shimmer

  • Gold (DES02)

Americana® Acrylics

  • Canyon Orange (DA238)
  • Lamp (Ebony) Black (DAO67)
  • Moody Blue (DA389)

DecoArt® Matte Metallics™

  • Gold (DMMT02)

Galaxy Glitter™

  • Clear Ice Comet (DGG18)

Other supplies

  • paper towels
  • sandpaper (fine grit)
  • hot glue gun (with clear glue sticks)
  • X-Acto® knife (or sharp edge)
  • wood stick
  • small paintbrush
  • finding (small; like a snail shell)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Using an X-Acto knife or sharp edge, carve some texture into the stick. (Or shave off some of the bark.)

  2. Sand any rough edges.

  3. To form the handle, wrap hot glue around the end of the wand. (Tip: keep rotating the stick until the glue has cooled.)

  4. Pick out a finding to attach to the end of the wand. (I used a snail shell, but it could be whatever you choose.)

  5. Glue the finding to the end of the wand. Allow to cool.

  6. Mix Moody Blue with Canyon Orange 1:1. Mix with water to have a wash and use to the entire surface of the wand.

  7. Paint on Canyon Orange to the entire surface, leaving some of the basecoat wash showing through.

  8. Paint a layer of Gold Enchanted. Allow to dry.

  9. On the raised areas of the handle, paint on Gold Matte Metallic. Allow to dry.

  10. Paint Lamp Black into the recessed areas of the want. Wipe back the paint with a paper towel to allow the metallic paint to show.

  11. For sparkly accents, paint on Clear Ice Comet.
