Painted Gnome Door Wooden Slice

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • pencil
    • #10 flat brush
    • #1 liner brush
    • #1 round brush
    • Basswood country round

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Print off the provided pattern to fit the basswood round. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the pattern to the wooden round.
    2. Use the #10 flat brush and Maple Gel Stains to paint the area around the door, squirrel, and mushrooms. Use a paper towel to wipe back immediately. Rinse brush.

    4. Use the #10 flat brush and Deep Turquoise to fill in the door. Rinse brush. Use the same brush and Dolphin to paint the trim around the door. Rinse brush.

    6. Use the #1 round brush to mix (2) parts Cotton Ball with (1) part Deep Turquoise. Use the mix to fill in the window. Rinse brush. Use the same brush to mix (1) part Night Sky with (1) part Deep Turquoise. Use the mix with the #1 round brush to paint to shade around the door, add detail, and outline the door. Rinse brush.

    8. Use the #1 round brush to mix (1) part Dolphin with (1) part Black Tie to make a dark grey mix. Use the same brush and the mix to paint wood grain around the door. Rinse brush.

    10. Use the #1 round brush with Cocoa Bean to paint the wood grain on all parts stained in step 2. Rinse brush.

    12. Use the #1 round brush and Almond to paint the squirrel's face, tummy, inside of feet, and tail, and the stems on the mushrooms. Rinse brush. Use the same brush with Brown Sugar to paint the remaining fur on the squirrel. Rinse brush.

    14. Use the #1 round brush and Red Hot to paint the doorknob and mushroom tops. Rinse brush.

    16. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the wooden sign shape to the door. Use the #10 flat brush to loosely mix of (1) part Almond with a small amount of Brown Sugar. Use the mix and the #10 flat brush to fill in the wooden sign shape horizontally. Rinse brush. Use the #1 liner brush and Coffee Bean to add the wood grain and mushroom stem details and to shade the wooden sign. Rinse brush. Let dry completely.

    18. Use a pencil to trace and transfer the words on the wooden sign. Use the #1 liner brush and Cotton Ball to paint the word "Gnome" on twice. Rinse brush.

    20. Use the #1 liner brush and Red Hot to paint on the word "Sweet" on the wooden sign. Rinse brush.

    22. Use the #1 liner brush and Apple Green to paint on the grass. Rinse brush. Use the same brush to highlight the grass with Inch Worm. Rinse brush.

    24. Use the #1 liner brush and Coffee Bean to outline the squirrel, fill in his nose and eye, and add detail on the mushroom stem. Rinse brush.

    26. Dip the handle end of brush in Cotton Ball to make reflection on the squirrel's eye. Wipe off handle. Use the #1 liner brush and Cotton Ball to add a highlight to his nose. Rinse brush.

    28. Use a #10 flat brush to seal the wooden round with DuraClear Ultra-Matte Varnish.
