"The Cow Jumped Over the Moon" Mixed Media Art

Decorate Baby's room with this nursery rhyme inspired art canvas.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • scissors
    • pencil
    • painter's tape
    • 3/4" flat brush
    • #8 round brush
    • scrapbook paper
    • canvas
    • cosmetic sponges
    • oil pastels
    • piano stamp

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Use a 1" flat brush to paint the canvas in Prussian Blue Hue.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Add these colors to the palette/plate: Dioxazine Purple, Primary Magenta, and Titanium White. Randomly mix the colors, making variations of lighter colors. Place the Americana Segmented Swirls Stencil on the canvas. Adhere with painter's tape if desired or hold in place with fingers while using a cosmetic sponge to dab on the various paint colors.

    5. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace he cow and the moon patterns to the scrapbook papers. Cut out. Also draw the stars and cut out (in a color of your choice).

    7. Use a #8 round brush and Carbon Black to add details to the faces. Use a pink oil pastel to add the muzzle to the cow and cheeks to the moon. (Refer to photo.)
    8. Mix (4) parts Titanium White with (1) part Burnt Umber and use mix with a #8 round brush to paint the cow's horns and tail. Use a #8 round brush and Carbon Black to add spots.
    9. Use a 3/4" flat brush to adhere the pieces to the canvas with Matte Medium. (Refer to photo for placement.)
    10. Use a light blue oil pastel to outline the cow and moon.
    11. Mix (5) parts Titanium White and (1) part Prussian Blue Hue on a palette or plastic plate. Use a 3/4" flat brush to smooth out this mix on the plate. Use this as an "ink pad" to stamp on the piano stamp.
    12. Mix 20% Cobalt Turquoise Hue with Texture Sand Paste. Use this mix and a palette knife to loosely frame the perimeter of the canvas.
