INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Wipe down the tray with a damp paper towel to get any dust or residue off.
  2. Use a 1" flat brush to basecoat the tray in Lace and then, in some areas, add Carbon. (Do not overlap colors.) Rinse brush.
  3. Use the same brush to apply Crackle Medium, following label instructions. Rinse the brush.
  4. Use the same brush to apply Lace over the Crackle Medium. (It will instantly start crackling.) Rinse the brush. Let dry completely.
  5. Use a 1" flat brush to paint over the tray with Cameo. Rinse brush. Let dry completely.
  6. Use a pencil and white transfer paper to transfer the pattern onto the tray.
  7. BACKGROUND: Use the 1/2" angular brush to shade around the edge and make the board lines with Carbon.
  8. Using the 1/2" angular brush, wash in grain lines with Carbon by adding a little water to the paint to get an inky consistency.
  9. FLOWER PETALS: Use the 1/4" or 1/2" flat brush to basecoat the petals with Inheritance. Rinse brush.
  10. Use the 1/2" angular brush to shade each petal with Rustic, pulling out the lines from the base of each petal. (Turn the brush on the chisel edge to pull out the lines.)
  11. STEMS AND LEAVES: Use the 1/4" flat brush to basecoat with Enchanted.
  12. Highlight the stems and leaves with New Life. (When highlighting, I like to use the 1/2” angular brush.)
  13. Repeat the highlight with Lace.
  14. Add the details to the stems and leaves and pull out the curlicues with the 18/0 liner brush and Carbon.
  15. Paint the rim of the tray (if it has one) with Carbon. Let dry.
  16. Use a 1" flat brush to seal the tray with Ultra-Matte Varnish.

HELPFUL HINTS

Technique on the petals: Load the toe of brush with paint. Blend on palette. Try to keep the paint in the toe. On the outer edge of each petal, use a choppy motion, pulling the paint toward the center.
