Choose any size terra-cotta flower pot for this project. Work with one pot or paint a variety of sizes and shapes to create a diy centerpiece or display.
Using the 3/4" flat brush, paint the entire surface with Snow White Americana Acrylic Paintâ„¢. Apply a second coat and allow to dry. Using the pattern provided, trace design onto tracing paper and transfer to the pot. If you prefer, use pattern for a reference and draw your own design with a pencil. Paint the eyes and some flower centers using Desert Turquoise. Allow to dry.
Paint the nose and some other flower centers using Ocean Blue. Allow to dry. Apply second coat, if needed.
Using Jack O Lantern and a small round brush, paint the teeth and some details, such as flower petals and hearts. Apply second coat and allow to dry.
With Royal Fuchsia, paint scallop designs around the eyes, heart and some flower centers. Allow to dry.
Using Cadmium Yellow, paint some flower petals. Using the handlw of your liner brush, add dip dot details around the nose/heart. Allow to dry.
Using the liner brush, paint the vines and leaves with Festive Green. Allow to dry.
Using a liner brush and Snow White, paint the design in the center of the eyes. Allow to dry.
Slightly thin Lamp Black paint with clean water. Load your liner brush and outline the design with Lamp Black. Allow to dry.
Optional: Following manufacturer's instructions, apply Dura Clear High Gloss Varnish (or any Dura Clear Varnish) to add an extra layer of protection for use outside.
Paint other pots of varying sizes with the same color palette to create a display or centerpiece.
Add flowers or fill the sugar skull inspired pots with treats to add to any Dia De Los Muertos celebration and decorations.
HELPFUL HINTS
When using a liner brush, thin the paint slightly with clean water. Load the brush fully with paint. To outline, hold brush handle straight up and keep only the very tip of the bristles on the surface. When paint begins to drag, do not press harder. Simply reload your brush with thinned paint.
