- heart template
- wooden skewer
- pencil
- masking tape
- wood board
- 3/4" flat brush
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
If you prefer, use a sign rather than the wood board, just paint it first with a light color.
- Find a piece of raw wood to work on. (Any size, your preference.)
- Lightly sand and seal the wood surface with Gloss Decou-Page. (TIP: Any clear varnish or other type of Decou-Page will work as well.) Allow to dry. If needed, lightly sand again.
- Cut out a heart to trace onto the board.
- Tape off the raw edges of the board with masking tape.
- With a flat brush, paint one brush-stroke of Burnt Sienna onto the board.
- With a wooden skewer or toothpick, scrape lines into the wet paint. (This sgraffito technique will give you the "wood" look.)
- Continue to work in sections until you cover the board. (Leaving out the heart shape gives the board the look of a heart carved in the wood.) Allow to dry.
- Remove the masking tape.
- Using a liner brush, paint initials into the heart. Allow to dry. Add any embellishments that you want to personalize.
- The board makes an easy DIY to give as an anniversary gift or to any loved one.
