Hello there!  Today, I am so excited to share my Repurposed Vintage Suitcase using Patent Leather Paint.  This was an easy painted craft with a big transformation.  DecoArt's Patent Leather Paint is one of the new 2017 products and I had so much fun using it.  Just by adding paint to a forgotten vintage piece, you can bring new life and purpose to it.

Items Needed:

• DecoArt Patent Leather Paint 2oz - White
• DecoArt Patent Leather Paint 2oz - Bright Pink
• Mini Vintage Suitcase
• Oil Cloth
• Paint Brushes
• Scissors
• Tacky Glue

Gather your supplies.

I bought this vintage suitcase on Etsy for a fairly good price.  You can find suitcases like this one in most thrift or antique stores.  They are usually called train or makeup suitcases. The one I bought was in pretty good shape but just needed a little makeover.

I started by giving the suitcase a good scrub making sure it was as clean as possible.  I removed the original lining and replaced it with new.  I used a black and white gingham oil cloth to reline the inside because this material is durable and can easily be cleaned.  I cut the oil cloth for a tight fit and glued it using tacky glue.

I painted the entire outside of the suitcase including the hardware with DecoArt Patent Leather paint in Bright Pink.  The patent leather paint is sticky when first applied but once it is cured it is smooth and shiny. It takes 24-48 hours for the paint to fully cure.  I applied multiple coats of paint for full coverage using a soft bristle brush and allowed each coat to dry before apply another one.

I painted the trim in the inside of the suitcase using DecoArt Patent Leather paint in White.  I used the same process as the Bright Pink paint.  I applied multiple coats for full coverage.

The patent leather paint gives a very shiny finish to any surface to it is applied to.  I am really glad I painted the hardware the same color as the suitcase because it has a nice cohesive look.  I am using this Repurposed Vintage Suitcase using Patent Leather Paint for my craft supplies but you could use it to store makeup, jewelry, or anything you'd like.  What color would you use?
