Experiment with stencils and DecoArt Media to create a fun journal page

SUPPLIES

• water container
• palette or plastic plate
• paper towels
• scissors
• #3 round brush
• 3/4" flat brush
• baby wipes
• craft glue
• #1 liner brush
• cosmetic sponge
• journal book with watercolor pages
• public domain image

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES:

Let dry completely between painting steps.

1. Apply Gesso to both pages of journal.
2. Paint Titan Buff on both pages. When dry, randomly stencil small portions of the Classic Quatrefoil design on the pages with Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide. Add a touch of Burnt Umber to darken the transparent Yellow Iron Oxide and stencil again in a few additional areas.

3. Stencil the Radical Rays design in the upper left, upper right, and lower center of the page spread using Cobalt Teal Hue. When dry, reposition the stencil over the image, and stencil Cobalt Blue Hue from the center out to create dimension. Once dried, use Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide to stencil the Code Breaker design randomly on the pages. Stencil the Scribble design randomly on the pages using Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide.

4. Stencil the Scribble design with Quinacridone Gold randomly on the pages. Use Cobalt Teal Hue to stencil the Pixelated design randomly on the pages, creating party confetti.

5. Glaze Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide over the background by loading color on a baby wipe and lightly rubbing in a circular motion. Avoid going over the turquoise designs to retain their brilliant color.

6. Cut out the image of a body and an animal head from public domain image. Cut away the head of the body and glue the body onto the neck of the animal head. Trim the animal head and neck to fit the body. Adhere created image to the page by applying a coat of Matte Medium to the page and placing the image on the page in desired position. Apply another coat of Matte Medium over the image. Brushing from the center toward the outer edges of the images will help eliminate air bubbles and wrinkles.

7. Paint a light coat of Interference Turquoise to define the lapels. To define the sleeves and edges of the coat, line with same color and soften with finger while still wet. Stencil the wording with the Distressed Alpha Stencil using Carbon Black.

8. Glaze the outer edges of the pages using a folded baby wipe loaded with Burnt Umber. Apply a coat of Ultra Matte Varnish on both pages.
