Painted Jewelry Box Makeover

Transform an old wooden jewelry box into a luxurious décor piece using Americana Decor® Chalky Finish™ and Metallics™.

SUPPLIES

    • 3/4" flat brush
    • #6 flat brush
    • 1/2" flat brush
    • painter's or masking tape
    • 1" flat brush
    • large wooden jewelry box

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Collect the jewelry box, Chalky Finish and Metallics paints, tape (optional), brushes, and any other supplies you might need. (I always make sure I have a stack of napkins and a basin of fresh water for rinsing brushes.)
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Remove any hardware that you can. (For me, it was just the hinges for the lid. I did not remove the knobs for this project; I'll be painting them in a later step.) Remove the drawers and set them aside.
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Use the 1" flat brush to paint a light basecoat of Refreshing all over the outside of the box. (Only paint visible areas as too much paint will cause the drawers to not open smoothly.) Allow to dry.
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Use the 3/4" flat brush to paint the velvet lining of the jewelry box with Champagne Gold.
    8. Instruction #4
    9. Using the various brushes listed, paint in wavy stripes of Champagne Gold and Refreshing flowing over the box. Be sure to carry the pattern around corners and across drawers. Be sure to touch up the seams in between colors. Add coats as needed, allowing to dry in between each. (See the final photo for pattern suggestions.)
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Following the pattern, paint the knobs to match.
