Coat the 11" x 14" wooden panel in a layer of White Gesso. Once it dries, begin mapping out where the flowers will be painted using a pencil.
Begin color blocking: Simplify things by making three shades of grey (light, medium, and dark) using Carbon Black and Titanium White. Mix in Extender Medium to each shade so that paint doesn't dry too quickly. Apply one shade at a time.
Clean up the edges of the flowers with an angular brush by filling in the spaces between the flowers with Titanium White to give it a pop of contrast.
HELPFUL HINTS
When applying the layer of gesso: it does not have to be a thick layer. It's perfectly fine for the wooden panel to show through a bit. This is really just meant to fill in some of the pores in the wood, so don't feel like you have to use the whole tube.
