Blot excess paint before applying to prevent the paint from seeping under the stencil edges. Gently wash and dry the stencil as needed throughout the project to prevent paint from drying on th

  1. To make a simple frayed edge table runner: Measure and mark a piece of 100% cotton fabric at 12½” wide and 90” long. (See helpful hint below.) Using fabric scissors, clip the cotton fabric ½” at the marked positions and pull apart the ends to create a continuous straight frayed edge. Repeat on all four sides. OPTIONAL: Sew a single needle lockstitch in a matching thread color along all four frayed edges to prevent further fraying in the wash.
  2. Mix (2) parts Island Blue with (1) part Fabric Painting Medium. Position the Zig-Zag stencil at one end of the table runner. Using a stencil brush, dab the Island Blue/Fabric Painting Medium mix over the stencil along the first row of the zig-zag pattern.
  3. Remove the stencil and re-position to continue the stenciling along the entire length of the table runner.
  4. Re-position the zig-zag stencil at the starting end of the table runner aligning it with the previously stenciled row. Combine equal amounts of Island Blue and White to create a tonal color. Mix in (1) part Fabric Painting Medium to (2) parts tonal mix. Using a stencil brush, dab the tonal mix over the stencil along the second row of the zig-zag pattern.
  5. Continue down the entire length of the table runner until the second row is complete.
  6. Re-position the zig-zag stencil at the starting end of the table runner aligning it with the previously stenciled rows. Mix (2) parts Pure Pumpkin with (1) part Fabric Painting Medium. Using a stencil brush, dab the Pure Pumpkin mix over the stencil along the third row of the zig-zag pattern. Continue down the entire length of the table runner until the third row is complete.
  7. Re-position the zig-zag stencil at the starting end of the table runner aligning it with the previously stenciled rows. Combine equal amounts of Pure Pumpkin and White to create a tonal color. Mix in (1) part Fabric Painting Medium to (2) parts tonal mix. Using a stencil brush, dab the tonal mix over the stencil for the final row of the zig-zag pattern.
  8. Heat set the painted areas of the table runner for 30 seconds with an iron.
  9. Style.

HELPFUL HINTS
