Change the look of a concrete planter to an oxidized tin finish with Designer Finishes.

SUPPLIES

• paper towels
• wax paper
• 2" foam brush
• fan brush
• stiff bristle brush
• concrete planter
• paint palette or paper plate

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES:

Depending on the size of the indoor planter, you may choose to use the fan brush for smaller planters or the bristle brush for larger planters. I listed both, but you may only need one. Allow paint to dry completely after each step.

1. Gather the products and applicators.

2. Select the indoor planter of your choice for this project. ( I chose this one because of the raised details on the pot.)

3. Use the bristle brush to paint the exterior of the planter with one coat of Metallic Tin. (Make sure to push the paint into recessed areas.) Let dry.

4. Mix Metallic Tin 4:1 with Texture Sand Paste.

5. Use the foam brush to apply the mix randomly and sparingly to the planter surface. Let dry.

6. Mix 4:1 water and Vintage Effect Wash Black.

7. Lightly brush the mix over the entire planter surface. Let dry.

8. Mix 4:1 water to Vintage Effect Wash White. Lightly brush the mix over the entire surface, allowing the Wash White to settle into recesses here and there on the design. Let dry.

9. Dip the fan brush or bristle brush into a very small amount of Metallic Tin. Wipe off any excess paint on a paper towel. (This technique is called dry-brushing.) Lightly brush the paint on some areas of the raised features (and some recessed areas) of the planter. (This will give the effect of letting some of the tin show through.)
