Mixed Media Flower Pot With Door

This mixed media project combines sculpting putty with Americana® Acrylic colors.

SUPPLIES

    • paper towels
    • glue
    • 8" terra cotta pot and saucer
    • embellishments of choice
    • fairy door kit
    • QuickWood sculpting putty
    • vegetable oil cooking spray
    • Scharff brushes - Series 140 #20, #4
    • floater and pouncer

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Paint the fairy door Ocean Blue.
    2. Crackle the door with One Step Crackle, following the directions on the packaging.
    3. Antique the door with Traditional Burnt Umber.
    4. Glue the doorknob and other embellishments in place onto the door.
    5. Paint the doorknob Traditional Burnt Umber.
    6. Adhere the pot to the saucer with QuikWood or glue. Place the saucer so that one edge will accommodate the door. Adhere the door to the edge of the saucer and to the side of the pot.
    7. To sculpt the flowers: Follow the step-by-step illustration to form the flowers out of QuickWood. (See helpful hints below.)

    9. Sculpt a large rose and place it within the design.
    10. Add the smaller flowers and fill in with leaves until the area is filled around the door.
    11. Paint the leaves Hauser Light Green.
    12. Paint the flowers with colors that you like. (Make sure those colors are repeated throughout the design.)
    13. When dry, antique the flowers with thinned Traditional Burnt Umber, making sure the color gets into all of the nooks and crannies. Lightly wipe with a damp paper towel.
    14. Let dry.
    15. (Optional) Spray with Americana Matte Spray Sealer.
