Mixed Media Birdcage Wooden Canvas

A bird holds court in a mixed media birdcage in this bright wall canvas.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- pencil
- liner brush
- 3/4" flat brush
- #8 round brush
- cosmetic sponge
- assorted scrapbook paper
- oil pastels
- wooden canvas
INSTRUCTIONS
- Tear the scrapbook paper of various colors and patterns in strips. Using a 3/4" flat brush, adhere the strips to the wooden canvas surface with Matte Medium.
- Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the surface with Hansa Yellow Medium. While the paint is still wet, paint the perimeter with Green Gold.
- Place the Americana Top 20 Stencil on the surface and use a cosmetic sponge to dab in Cobalt Turquoise Hue.
- Use a pencil eraser to randomly dab dots in random colors.
- Use a #8 round brush and paint a branch across the surface and feet in Burnt Umber. Use a pencil to trace the bird. Mix Quinacridone Magenta with Titanium White 1:3; use mix and a 3/4" flat brush to paint the bird. Use a #8 round brush to paint the wings and belly in Quinacridone Magenta. Use a liner brush to paint the beak in Hansa Yellow Medium; outline in Cobalt Turquoise Hue. Use a liner brush to paint the eyes in Cobalt Turquoise Hue.
- Use a #8 round brush to paint the bird's cheeks with a 1:5 mix of Quinacridone Magenta and Titanium White. Use a #8 round brush to paint the birdcage lines. Use a 3/4" flat brush to loosely paint the perimeter in Burnt Umber.
- Optional: Use oil pastels to enhance and outline. Add a crown (cut from scrapbook paper or use a stamp).
