Light up a living space with a nautically-themed lamp and Metallic Lustre®.

SUPPLIES

• sandpaper

• hot glue gun and glue sticks
• stencil of your choice

• lamp
• wooden shape
• rope
• E6000 Glue

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES:

Let dry completely between painting steps.

1. Begin this project with a clean, simple lamp. You may need to mix and match lamp bases and shades to get the desired look. A white or cream lampshade works best for this project.

2. Sand any rough surfaces smooth. Clean the lamp before adding Metallic Lustre to avoid any sanding particles in the paint. (If desired, apply a coat of Grey Sky over the lamp base for a more even coating of metallic paint.)
3. Apply Silver Spark with a soft cloth or paper towel in a smooth motion.

4. Apply as many coats as necessary to get the desired finish. With a soft cloth or paper towel, rub any rough areas smooth after drying.

5. Don't forget to paint the lamp finial as well.

6. Attach a desired stencil of an anchor or other nautical image to the outside of the lampshade. Use painter's tape to hold it in place.

7. Use the lampshade metal holders across the top of the shade to mark out four locations for the stencil. Line the stencil up with each one of these. (It may be easier to remove the lampshade from the lamp to apply the stencil and paint.)

8. Use a light pencil line to trace inside the stencil. (If you prefer, you can paint directly over the stencil as well. Just make sure to tape down all edges securely so the paint won't leak under the stencil.)

9. Use a round brush to fill in the pencil line if you haven't already painted over the stencil. (This just helps to have more control on a curved surface. You can also fill in the gap on the upper loop of the anchor with paint, making it all one smooth image.) Paint the anchors in a mix of Navy Blue and Fabric Painting Medium.

10. When the anchors are all painted and dry, start applying the rope to the top and bottom of the lampshade with a hot glue gun. Adhere to rows of rope on the top and bottom, making sure to line up the ends of the rope with the back seam of the lampshade. Add rope to the base of the lamp, as desired.

11. Find a ship helm of choice. (Shown: One that is supposed to be a coat hook, but it unscrews in the back and can be used as an accent.)

12. Pre-drill through the center of the helm so you don't split the wood. Attach a screw through the center. (If you prefer, or don't have a screw gun, you can attach the helm using E6000 Glue.)

13. Find the point on the lamp where you want to attach the helm; make a pencil mark. Attach the helm at that point with the screw.
