- paper towels
- 1" flat brush
- #4 flat brush
- #12 flat brush
- #1 liner brush
- canvas
- white transfer paper
- fabric
INSTRUCTIONS
- Iron the batik fabric to eliminate wrinkles.
- Apply Matte Decou-Page to the canvas with all-over, even coverage. Center the batik on the canvas. Working from the center, smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles. Making neat corners, turn the surface over and apply Decou-Page to the fabric onto the back of the canvas. Let dry. Brush an even coat of Decou-Page on top of the fabric. Allow to dry for 24 hours before painting.
- Enlarge the pattern to fit the canvas. Transfer the pattern using white transfer paper.
- Horn: Base the horn in Antique Gold, followed by two coats of Emperor’s Gold (or more if necessary for opaque coverage). Shade with Burnt Sienna; re-inforce with Burnt Umber. Add Snow White highlights. (Refer to photo for placement.)
- Basecoat the petals on the poinsettia in Poodleskirt Pink.
- Basecoat the holly leaves in Forest Green.
- Base the ribbon in a brush mix of Citron Green and Forest Green.
- Base the berries in Royal Fuchsia.
- The pine boughs are painted with a liner brush using Black Forest Green, Forest Green, and Citron Green, alternating the colors. Add snow to the tips using Snow White.
- Shade the holly leaves with Black Forest Green. Highlight with Citron Green. Add vein lines with Citron Green using a liner brush.
- Petals: Load the #12 flat brush with Poodleskirt Pink. Pick up a corner of Royal Fuchsia and blend on the palette for a soft value change. Paint each petal, keeping the Royal Fuchsia toward the shaded areas and the Poodleskirt Pink toward the outer edges.
- Re-inforce the shaded areas with Cranberry Wine. Add a Snow White highlight to each petal tip.
- Center: Paint dots of Citron Green; add Cadmium Yellow followed by a small dot of True Red.
- Ribbon: Shade with Black Forest Green and highlight with Citron Green. Add a trim of Emperor’s Gold.
- Berries: Highlight the berries with Poodleskirt Pink. Shade with Cranberry Wine. Add a dot of Snow White.
- Tint the petals, the berries and, very softly, on the horn with True Red.
- Let all dry completely.
