    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

Use a drop of Extender Medium with each color to keep them wet longer and to make blending effortless.

    1. Mix Phthalo Turquoise and Quinacridone Violet separately with Titanium White to make pastel versions of each. Use the paints from the tubes and the pastel mixes to lay down the background color of the image. Map out a sky and the foreground wave, curving the left side of the painting up to mimic the shape of the wave. (Refer to the final image.) Save these color mixes.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Mix Cerulean Blue and Quinacridone Magenta separately with Titanium White to make pastel versions of each color. Use these mixes to add highlights and another layer to the sky and wave. Save these color mixes.
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Mix Cobalt Teal, Yellow Green Light, and Primary Yellow separately with Titanium White to make pastel versions of each. Use these mixes to paint in more color to the sky and wave. (Focus yellow into the sky area and touches of the wave, and working in more green and blue into the wave.) Save these color mixes.
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Use Cerulean Blue to work more of that color back into the wave and slightly cover areas previously painted. Use the drying time extender to make this blending seamless.
    8. Instruction #4
    9. Since you saved all of the colors, layer them in areas and blend in smaller sections across the wave to create more visual interest. Use a smaller brush for this step.
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Use the Cobalt Turquoise, Quinacridone Violet, Quinacridone Magenta and Bright Yellow mixes for the sky, blending them into each other and layering them over one another.
    12. Instruction #6
    13. Once mostly dry, pounce White over top of the pastel colors bouncing around and creating a white tipped wave effect.
    14. Instruction #7
    15. Water down White to a very thin consistency and splatter this onto the canvas around the area where the white tipped waves were painted in.
