"Make Tea, Not War" Potholder and Mitt

SUPPLIES

SoSoft® Fabric Paint

  • Lamp Black (DSS24)
  • Navy Blue (DSS96)
  • Ocean Blue (DSS86)
  • Ultra White (DSS36)

Other supplies

  • water container
  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • tracing paper
  • transfer paper
  • pencil (or pen)
  • #6 flat brush
  • #1 liner brush
  • #1 round brush
  • oven mitt and potholder (color of choice)

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Use a pen or pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the teapot and words pattern to the potholder and the dish collage pattern to the oven mitt.
    Step 0 Example
  2. Use the #6 flat brush and Ultra White to paint the teapot. Use the same brush to add a very small amount of Lamp Black to Ultra White to make a very light grey mix. Use the same brush and the mix to shade the teapot and lid. Rinse brush. (Save the mix for a future step.)
    Step 1 Example
  3. Use the #1 round brush and the mix from step 2 to paint the handle. Add more Lamp Black to the mix to make it darker. Use the same brush and the new mix to shade the handle and to paint the spout. Add more Lamp Black to the mix and use the new mix for the very tip of the spout. (Save this last mix for future steps.) Rinse brush.

  4. Use the #1 round brush and load separately with Navy Blue; Ocean Blue; and a mix of (2) parts Ultra White with a small amount of Ocean Blue. Use Navy Blue; Ocean Blue; and the mix for random polka dots on the teapot. Rinse brush before switching colors and at the end.

  5. Use the #1 liner brush and the last mix from step 3 to outline the pot, lid, and spout. Rinse brush.
    Step 4 Example
  6. Use the #1 round brush to mix of (2) parts Ultra White with a small amount of Ocean Blue. Use the mix to paint the words "Make Tea". Rinse brush.
    Step 5 Example
  7. Use the #1 liner brush and Navy Blue to paint the words "Not War". Rinse brush.
    Step 6 Example
  8. Use #1 round brush to make these mixes: Ocean Blue and Ultra White 1:1; Navy Blue and Ultra White 2:1; and Lamp Black and Ultra White 3:1. Use the mixes with the #1 round and #1 liner brushes to fill in the kitchen items. Rinse brush before switching to a new mix and at the end.

  9. Use the #1 liner brush and the mix from step 3 to outline and add details. Rinse brush. Use the same brush and Navy Blue to outline and add details. Rinse brush.
