Other supplies

  • water container
  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • fine/small brush
  • 1" foam brush
  • cardstock
  • 10" x 10" canvas
  • scrapbook paper (sheet music; green)
  • rubber stamps (snowflake; present)
  • cork
  • die-cut star

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Trace the shape of the canvas onto the back of a sheet of sheet music scrapbook paper.

  2. Cut each corner of the traced paper inwardly on the diagonal, stopping at each traced line.

  3. Apply a thin, even layer of Americana Matte Decou-Page to the entire canvas, including the edges. Gently place the sheet music scrapbook paper onto the canvas and smooth out any wrinkles. Wrap the excess paper around the edges of the canvas and flatten. Trim any excess paper with scissors.

  4. Tear sheets of green scrapbook paper into four strips, each one shorter in length than the other. Apply a thin, even layer of Decou-Page to the bottom of each strip and press onto the canvas.

  5. Add a die-cut star to the top of the scrapbook paper tree by applying a thin, even layer of Decou-Page to the bottom of it and pressing it onto the canvas. Apply a thin, even layer of Decou-Page to the entire canvas.

  6. Cut a small cork in half, lengthwise, and hot glue it to the base of the tree.

  7. Using a small brush, apply a thin layer of Titanium White to a snowflake rubber stamp. Place snowflakes along the left edge of the canvas. Repeat the process as desired.

  8. Using a small brush, apply a thin layer of Primary Magenta to a present rubber stamp. Place presents along the bottom right of the canvas. Repeat the process as desired.

  9. Apply a thin layer of Ice Crystal to the entire canvas for added shimmer and shine.

HELPFUL HINTS

To achieve a totally smooth surface while using Decou-Page, keep a straight edge object (like a credit card) nearby to gently flatten surfaces. For added dimension, however, some bumps and ripples may be desirable.
