    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

It Is helpful to find a photo of a lion that you can use as a reference when painting.

Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Paint all wooden surfaces in Oyster Beige. (These do not have to be perfect because you will be adding multiple colors on top of it.)
    2. Instruction #1
    3. For the "mane” (the oval laser cut frame), use Canyon Orange, Jack O'Lantern Orange, and Marigold to create hair, blending and lightening as you move outward. Use Buttermilk to create highlights. Use Soft Black with a liner brush to paint the hairs. Toward the bottom in the middle, use Snow White and Buttermilk with a liner brush to make thin hairs and whiskers.
    4. Instruction #2
    5. For the mouth and nose, trace out a pattern on the larger wooden oval in pencil, using the photo below as a reference. (I drew a straight line down the center to try and make the sides even.)
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Use Soft Black with a liner brush for the mouth. Use mix Persimmon and Snow White for the nose. Use Milk Chocolate with a liner brush to dot the whisker holes. Use Buttermilk with a small flat brush (dab it so that there is very little paint on the brush) and blot around the whisker area. Use Snow White with a liner brush to draw whiskers.
    8. Instruction #4
    9. With E6000 Glue, adhere the dowel rod to the back of the mouth oval. Let dry. Adhere the dowel rod to the front of the laser cut frame. (See photo for placement.)
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Repeating the previous steps for painting shadows and highlights, paint the two smaller ovals to create ears. For the inner ear, paint a teardrop shape in Soft Black and Milk Chocolate. For the area around it, use Canyon Orange, Jack O'Lantern Orange, and Marigold to create hair, blending and lightening as you move outward. Use Buttermilk and Snow White to create highlights and to paint in the hairs.
    12. Instruction #6
    13. Glue the ears onto the frame and allow to dry.
