Leprechaun Door Accent

Create this St. Patty's Day decoration with a stained basswood round.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- tracing paper
- transfer paper
- soft cloth
- pencil
- #3 round brush
- 3/4" flat brush
- #10 flat brush
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- hand saw
- Basswood Country Round
- rhinestone
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Allow to dry between painting steps.
- With a pencil, draw a line from the bottom of the Basswood round up about 3” and then saw it off.
- Use a 3/4” flat brush to apply Maple Gel Stains. (You can add water to thin it out.) Immediately wipe back with a soft cloth or old T-shirt. Let dry completely.
- Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the designs onto the Basswood round.
- Use a #10 flat brush to basecoat all the designs Snow White. Let dry completely.
- Use the #3 round brush and #10 flat brush to paint the border around the windows and shoe buckles and to fill in the door handle in Antique Gold. Rinse brushes.
- Use the #10 flat brush and Cadmium Yellow, Citron Green, Festive Green, and Hauser Medium Green to paint jagged shapes for stained glass look. (Keep Cadmium Yellow and Citron Green toward the inner points to appear as if light is showing through.) Rinse brush.
- Use the same brush with Lamp Black to make grain lines in the door; outline the window, glass, and door handle; and fill in the shoes. Do not rinse brush.
- Using the unrinsed #10 flat brush, add a small amount of Snow White to make grey and shade the shoes. Rinse and add just Snow White for highlights.
- Use hot glue gun to attach the green rhinestone or cabochon to the door handle.
