Kitty Painted on Black Velvet

Create a modernized version of classic velvet paintings with Americana Acrylics.

SUPPLIES

    • staple gun
    • small and medium brushes
    • black velvet
    • stretcher bars

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Cut velvet approximately 3 inches bigger than your frame. Wrap one end over the frame and secure in place using a staple gun. Continue this process on all 4 sides, making sure the velvet is stretched taut.
    2. Take a portrait style photo of your cat and print it according to the size of your canvas. Transfer image on to the velvet using the white paint pen. Use a medium flat brush to paint the outer areas of the cat's face in Bright Orange leaving some areas of the velvet exposed. Saturate your brush in water to blend the paint smoothly onto the velvet. Using the same brush paint the middle and muzzle area of the cat in White. Use a small brush to start adding accents and details in Purple Cow.

    4. Use a small brush to continue adding details/marking in Purple Cow. Use a small brush to paint the eyes in Bahama Blue and highlight in White. Use a small brush to paint the nose in Razzle Berry and highlight in White.

    6. Use a medium brush to paint the cat's body in Bright Orange and White leaving some areas of the black velvet exposed.

    8. Use a small brush to add cat's markings in Purple Cow.

    10. Use a small brush to paint the eyes and nose in Burnt Sienna. Use a small brush to add highlight in Bahama Blue and White. Use a medium brush to paint the body in White. Use a small brush to add Cotton Candy and Bahama Blue accents.
