    • two 3" x 24" pieces of basswood
    • 1" x 36" piece of balsa wood
    • steel wool
    • vinegar
    • clean glass jar
    • sheet of clear vinyl
    • hand saw
    • Silhouette electronic cutting machine

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Put steel wool and vinegar in jar and let sit for at least 24 hours. (The longer you let it sit, the darker stain will be.
    2. Cut basswood in half so that you have four pieces measuring 3” x 12”.
    3. Cut balsa wood in three pieces measuring about 1” x 12” each.
    4. Sand and distress edges of basswood.
    5. Stain basswood with steel wool and vinegar mixture. Let dry, sand, and distress more.
    6. Use .studio file with Silhouette® electronic cutter to cut stencil out of vinyl.
    7. Put stencil in desired place on basswood. Press down firmly making sure paint won’t bleed underneath vinyl.
    8. Use #8 flat brush to paint desired colors within open areas of vinyl stencil. (We used White Wash and Country Red.) Paint right up to cracks but hand paint in between so it is perfect in space between boards. Remove vinyl stencil carefully. Let dry.
    9. Once Country Red ribbon is dry, use #8 flat brush to paint Red Craft Twinkles on top of ribbon.
    10. Once paint is dry, turn over and glue three 1” x 12” slats to back to hold panels together.
