"Home Is Where the Heart Is" State Sign

Proud to be a Wolverine? Say so, on this colorful and eye-catching state sign.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • stylus or pencil
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • 1" flat brush
    • #10 flat brush
    • wood glue
    • #1 round brush
    • clean white cloth
    • 1-1/2" traditional heart
    • 3/4" block letters
    • wooden pallet

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Start with a plain wooden pallet and make sure it is clean and dust free.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Use a 1" flat brush and Everlasting to basecoat the entire pallet. Rinse brush.
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Use a pencil or stylus and tracing and transfer papers to transfer the chevron background pattern all over the pallet. (You will need to repeat the pattern four times to fit the entire pallet.)

    7. Use a #10 flat brush and Yesteryear to paint every other chevron stripe. Rinse brush.

    9. Use a pencil or stylus and the tracing and transfer papers to transfer the Michigan home font and state pattern to the upper half of the pallet.

    11. Use a #1 round brush and Inheritance to fill in all the parts of the state of Michigan. Rinse brush.

    13. Use a #1 round brush and Treasure to fill in the letters "H, M, and E". Rinse brush.
    14. Instruction #7
    15. Use #1 round brush and Treasure to paint the 3/4" block letters that will spell out "Where the is". Rinse brush.

    17. Use a #1 round brush and Rouge to paint the wooden heart. Rinse brush.

    19. Once paint is completely dry, glue the words and heart onto the pallet however you want.

    21. Use a 1" flat brush and lightly coat the whole pallet with Clear Crème Wax.
    22. (Optional) Once dry, use a white cloth to buff the pallet to create more of a satin finish.
