  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • sandpaper (optional)
  • soft cloth
  • wooden headboard (flea market find)
  • 1" flat brush
  • 1/4" angle brush
  • wood filler (optional)
  • drill and small drill bit
  • drawer knobs


NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Clean and wipe down all dust from the headboard. If needed, fill in any holes with wood filler and sand smooth.

  2. Paint the entire headboard with Rouge. Let each application dry before applying another layer of paint.

  3. Accent parts of the headboard with a lighter color. We painted the desired area with a single application of Cotton Ball.

  4. Paint over the Cotton Ball paint with multiple applications of White Pearl to achieve the desired finish.

  5. Finish the entire headboard with Americana Soft-Touch Varnish. Use the Waxing & Finishing Brush to apply the varnish, then polish it with a soft cloth.

  6. Drill holes where the knobs will go, and screw the knobs into place.
