Four Flower-Shaped Magnetic Chalkboards

Dress up a school locker with flower-shaped chalkboards that double as message boards.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • soft cloth
    • pencil
    • #10 flat brush
    • chalk
    • hot glue gun and glue sticks
    • #1 round brush
    • magnetic buttons
    • wooden flowers

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Remove all tags from the wooden flowers.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Use a #10 flat brush and load separately with Zinc, Boysenberry Pink, Sea Breeze, and Mulberry. Paint each flower edge in a separate color, rinsing brush before switching colors and at the end. (See photo.)

    5. Use a #10 flat brush and Lamp Black to fill in the flower centers.

    7. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the triangle pattern to the Mulberry flower. Use a #1 round brush to fill in the triangles with Boysenberry Pink. Rinse brush. Use the #1 round brush and load with Sea Breeze to outline the triangles. Rinse brush.

    9. Use a #1 round brush and Mulberry to paint medium and small random dots on the Sea Breeze flower. Rinse brush. Use the same brush and Boysenberry Pink to make medium and small dots on the Sea Breeze flower. Rinse brush.

    11. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the chevron pattern to the Zinc flower. Use a #1 round brush and Sea Breeze to fill in the chevron pattern. Rinse brush.

    13. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the pennants onto the Boysenberry flower. Use a #1 round brush and load separately with Bright Orange, Sea Breeze, Boysenberry Pink, and Zinc to fill in the pennants. Rinse brush. Use the same brush and Mulberry to paint the string on both banners. Rinse brush.

    15. Use a #10 flat brush to add Clear Chalkboard Coating to the flowers. Follow label instructions about brushing horizontally and then vertically with dry time in between. Rinse brush.

    17. Use hot glue gun and adhere magnetic buttons to the backs of the flowers. (They are lightweight, so 1-2 magnets per flower should be perfect.) Let dry for 24 hours.

    19. After 24 hours, turn chalk on its side and condition all chalkboards.

    21. Erase with soft rag or chalkboard eraser.
