Faux Mercury Glass Ornaments and Storage Box

Store these handmade traditional holiday ornaments in a box to match using Dazzling Metallics®.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • 1" flat brush
    • ribbon
    • clear glass ball ornaments
    • 2" foam brush
    • craft knife
    • papier mâché box
    • printed images
    • spray bottle
    • plastic cup

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Remove the metal caps from the ornaments and set aside.
    2. Using a spray bottle of water, mist the inside of each ornament. Spray a fine, even mist. Pour any excess water out of the ornament.

    3. Squirt a small amount of Shimmering Silver into the ornament. Swirl the paint around by turning the ornament until the inside of the ornament is covered. If desired, sprinkle in a little Crystal Glamour Dust while swirling the paint.

    4. Place the ornament upside down inside of a disposable cup. Repeat with the remaining ornaments. Let the excess paint drain overnight.

    5. The ornaments should look like the photo below the following day. If you would like a more opaque look, repeat the previous steps for an additional layer.

    6. Add some Black Tie into the ornament. Repeat the swirling and draining process for the remaining ornaments.

    7. Cut out images of your choice with scissors or a craft knife.

    8. Using a 1" flat brush, apply a coat of Americana Matte Decou-Page onto the back of the image. Apply image to ornament, gently pressing out any wrinkles. Apply another coat of Decou-Page on the top of the image. Wipe away any excess Decou-Page with a paper towel.

    9. While the Decou-Page is still wet, sprinkle Crystal Glamour Dust over the image.

    10. Repeat for additional ornaments. Place the ornaments in cups between coats to keep them still.

    11. Using a 2" foam brush, paint a papier-mâché box with two coats of Timeless, allowing the paint to dry between coats. Be sure to paint the inside and bottom of box as well.

    12. Paint the outside of the box and lid with one coat of White Pearl.

    13. Cut out and adhere images of your choice into the outside of the box with Decou-Page. Remove any wrinkles with your fingers. While the Decou-Page is still wet, sprinkle Crystal Glamour Dust over the images.

    14. Place the caps back on the ornaments once they are completely dry. Add a bow of narrow ribbon onto each ornament top.
