  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • tracing paper
  • transfer paper
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • liner brush
  • 3/4" flat brush
  • #8 round brush
  • two thumbtacks
  • assorted ribbon (fall colors)
  • canvas (8" x 24")
  • fabric (scraps; in fall colors)

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Use a ruler to to mark lines with a pencil. For the word " F a l l " measure 4.5" increments. The last section will be slightly larger and will measure 6".
  2. Use a 3/4" flat brush to paint the sectioned-off areas in this order from left to right: Yellow Ochre, Pansy Lavender, Jack-O'-Lantern Orange, Neutral Grey.
  3. Use a liner brush to paint tiny "X"s between each color in Light Buttermilk.
  4. Trace the leaf pattern onto canvas with a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers. Using a #8 round brush, mix a bit of Light Buttermilk with Neutral Grey and paint the leaf.
  5. Using a 3/4" flat brush, add a thin coat of Americana Matte Decou-Page to the back side of the fabric scraps. (This will prevent fraying.)
  6. Using a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers, trace and cut out the letters from the fabric scraps. Using a 3/4" flat brush and Decou-Page, decoupage the letters into place. (Refer to photo.)
  7. Using a 3/4" flat brush, seal the entire canvas with Decou-Page.
  8. Cut the ribbon 24"long and use thumb tacks to adhere it to the back side.
  9. Cut ten pieces of fabric 1" x 7". Tie five pieces to each side of the hanging ribbon. (Refer to photo.)
