"Elf" Christmas Letters

These colorful "elfin" letters will brighten a mantel or wall shelf for the holidays.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • pencil
    • wood glue
    • #12 flat brush
    • #1 round brush
    • wooden "ELF" letters and crowns

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Get "Elf" letters and crowns from www.cutitoutalready.com.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Use a pencil to loosely add stripes and a wavy line to all letters.

    5. Use a #12 flat brush and Turf Green to paint the letter's bottom section. Rinse brush.

    7. Use a #1 round brush and Green Beret to outline the bottom section of Turf Green. Rinse brush.

    9. Use a #12 flat brush and Cotton Ball to paint the top section. Rinse brush.

    11. Use a #12 flat brush and Lipstick to paint every other stripe. Rinse brush.

    13. Use a #1 round brush and Red Barn to shade the Lipstick stripes. Rinse brush.

    15. Use a #1 round brush to mix (1) part Dolphin with (1) part Cotton Ball. Use the mix to shade the Cotton Ball stripes. Rinse brush.

    17. Use a #1 round brush and Lipstick to fill in the stripes on the letter "l". Rinse brush.

    19. Use a #1 round brush and Red Barn to shade around the stripes. Rinse brush.

    21. Use a #12 flat brush and Apple Green to fill in the wide stripes. Rinse brush.

    23. Use a #12 flat brush and Turf Green to shade around the edges of the Apple Green section. Rinse brush.

    25. Use a #12 flat brush and Turquoise Waters to paint the shoe avoiding the polka dots. Rinse brush.

    27. Use a #1 round brush to mix (1) part Turquoise Waters with (1) part Blue Bird. Use the mix to shade around the shoe and around the polka dots. Rinse brush. (Save mix for future step.)

    29. Use a #1 round brush and Red Barn to paint polka dots on the shoe. Rinse brush.

    31. Use a #12 flat brush and Turquoise Waters to basecoat the letter "f". Rinse brush.

    33. Use a #1 round brush and the mix from step 14 to shade "F" around the edges. Rinse brush.
    34. Use a pencil and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the swirl pattern onto the "F".

    36. Use a #1 round brush and Lipstick to paint on the swirls. Rinse brush.

    38. Use a #1 round brush and School Bus to paint the centers of both crowns. Rinse brush.

    40. Use the same brush and Muted Gold to blend into the School Bus color.

    42. With the same brush and Muted Gold, paint the crowns' edges.

    44. Attach the large crown to the "e" and the small crown to the "f" with wood glue.
