Other supplies

  • scissors
  • craft glue
  • masking tape
  • freezer paper
  • large brush
  • paper lantern (white, round)
  • rice paper (roll)


  1. Gather materials: a 12" paper lantern and a roll of rice paper (will need approximately 30" of paper).

  2. Tape down about 3' of freezer paper to protect your surface.

  3. Cut 3' of rice paper and lay on freezer paper.

  4. With a large, water saturated brush, paint on Eucalyptus Leaf, Matcha Green and Moody Blue Americana Acrylics. Paint on colors randomly with loose brushstrokes and allow some rice paper to show through. Peel off painted rice paper and lay flat or hang to dry.

  5. Cut 3' more of the rice paper and repeat the painting process. You will need approximately ten 3' painted sheets.

  6. After all sheets are dry, fold each sheet in half horizontally.

  7. Trace leaf pattern onto paper multiple times side by side to fill up entire paper.

  8. Cut out leaf shapes. You can leave a strip at the top to glue strip to lantern or cut out each leaf individually.

  9. Paint top surface of each leaf with Green Americana Enchanted paint to add an iridescent shine. Allow to dry completely.

  10. Fold each leaf in half, open and form the leaf.

  11. Starting at the bottom of the lantern, glue on one strip of leaves with hot glue.

  12. Continue to glue on leaf strips between each metal ring until lantern is completely covered.

  13. The iridescence of the Green Enchanted paint gives a beautiful shimmery shine to the lantern when the light is off. It could also be used to add visual interest and texture to a room as a sculpture!

  14. With the lights off, the application of the paint colors looks beautiful with the light shining through!
