  • sandpaper (optional)
  • scissors
  • liner brush
  • craft glue (quick-drying; or glue gun and clear glue sticks)
  • branch
  • string (or yarn)
  • pencil
  • watercolor paper


NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Sand the branch, if needed.

  2. Free-hand write "Love Our Mother" on the front of the branch with a pencil.

  3. Use Warm Sunset, Moody Blue, Jadeite Glass, Cactus Flower, Cobblestone, and Eucalyptus to paint the words on on the front.

  4. Allow to dry and apply a second coat of all colors for even coverage.

  5. Using the provided pattern templates, draw the shapes of clouds and drops onto a sheet of watercolor paper.

  6. Using the provided pattern templates, draw the shapes of trees, animals, and people onto a sheet of watercolor paper.

  7. Using the provided pattern templates, draw the shapes of sea creatures, rainbows, and butterfly onto a sheet of watercolor paper.

  8. Paint clouds with a mix of Snow White and Moody Blue painted with painterly brush-strokes. Paint the drops with a solid coat of Moody Blue and a highlight painted with Jadeite Glass mixed with Snow White.

  9. Paint the tree bark, leaf veins, bear's accents, and person's hair with Warm Sunset. The foliage of tree is painted with Matcha Green. The leaves and shadow of the snake are painted with Eucalyptus Leaf. The bear's face is painted with Cobblestone; the girl's face is a mix of Eucalyptus Leaf, Warm Sunset, and Snow White.

  10. The rainbows are painted with Matcha Green, Warm Sunset, and Cactus Flower. The jellyfish is painted with Cactus Flower with dots of Jadeite Glass. The narwhal is painted with Jadeite Glass with accents of Moody Blue and Warm Sunset dots. The butterfly is painted with Cobblestone with accents of Eucalyptus Leaf, Moody Blue, and Cactus Flower.

  11. Cut out all shapes when completely dry.

  12. With Lamp Black and a small brush, make kawaii faces on each shape. Allow to dry completely.

  13. Tie four pieces of string or yarn to stick. (Space the yarn so that the words are not covered.) Lay out the shapes on the string and cut strips of watercolor paper to fit behind each picture. Glue the string between the back of the shape and the strip of watercolor paper. (See photo.) Allow to dry.

  14. Tie the yarn or string to the top of the branch to hang. Tie small pieces of another branch to the end of each string for added weight. (See photo.)
