Other supplies

  • sandpaper
  • flat brush
  • masking tape
  • fine/small round brush
  • clean cloth
  • pencil
  • wooden rounds (4 or more)
  • wooden square (5"x5" or larger)


  1. Gather the wooden pieces. You will need a larger shape for the pitcher coaster and four or more smaller wooden pieces for the cup coasters.

  2. Sand the entire surfaces of the wooden pieces until they are smooth. Wipe off dust.

  3. Using a flat brush, paint the top and edges with Cloud White. Allow to dry. Sand lightly to smooth, if needed.

  4. Trace a round shape onto one corner of the square wooden shape using one of the smaller round coasters.

  5. Form the shapes for colorblocking using masking tape.

  6. Paint some of the shapes with Coral.

  7. Fill in some of the other areas with Lime Zest, Golden Pineapple, and Cloud White.

  8. Remove the masking tape and paint the remaining areas with Emerald Ocean.

  9. Outline and fill in the Cloud White areas with Nightfall. Use various patterns to create visual interest. Allow to dry completely.

  10. Paint the cup coaster bottoms with Nightfall. Allow to dry.

  11. To add extra durability, paint on Soft-Touch Varnish. Allow to dry.
