Create a simple and easy Beach inspired Travel Journal for your next beach trip! This is a perfect idea to write down special memories while on your trips to the beach throughout the years. Today I’m sharing a really fun one I made using the DecoArt Mixed Media Paints.
This is my first time using the Mixed Media Paints and I was really excited. While doing some research I found so many different ways you can use them, but I was really drawn to using them as watercolors. I LOVE the look of watercolors and I knew that would be a great option to create my perfect travel journal.
Let’s get started!!

TRAVEL JOURNAL
I found the perfect pocket size journal. I was thinking a smaller size journal would be a lot easier to slip into my suitcase or beach bag then a larger size.
Step 1 – Paint Journal
Since the journal was pink when I purchased it, I decided to paint it white. I just used some white acrylic paint and painted on a total of three coats. Let each coat dry 10 minutes.
Step 2 – Add Your Mixed Media Paints
Now it’s time to paint!! Yay!!
I added my favorite colors to my palate. Since I wanted the watercolor effect, I added some water to each color diluting it. It creates the perfect watercolors. Then I started painting on my water first. I wanted it to have the feeling on water and a sunset. I’m not the best painter, but I’m pleased with how it turned out.
Step 3 – Stencil Time
I wanted to add an extra detail with a seahorse. I used the Texture Sand Paste and a stencil. Line the stencil on top of the cover and apply the sand paste with a spade spatula.
Once I added the sand paste I pulled the stencil up immediately. Let dry for about an hour.
Step 3 – Liquid Glass
I really wanted to add a little texture to the waves and sun so I used the liquid glass. I added waves and spread it with my fingers. Unfortunately it doesn’t really show up in the picture but it does in person and looks pretty.
Finishing Touches
I did a tester journal and used the misters on it. I think they really add another fun detail to the journal as well.
Side Note: When I added the liquid glass some of the original journal color started seeping through. But I actually think it gives it another fun touch.
Next time I go on a beach trip this Summer I can start writing down memories, thoughts, etc. in my new travel journal! I am actually really excited about this. I’m not a big journal person so this will be something new for me. I hope it inspires you to do the same!
