Coat Rack Headboard with Chalkboard Finish

Repurpose an old headboard into handy coat rack with erasable markings made with Americana® Clear Chalkboard Coating.

SUPPLIES

    • paintbrush
    • fine-grit sandpaper
    • chalk
    • old headboard
    • Americana Acrylic color of choice (optional)
    • primer (optional)
    • hook and eye closure
    • spackling paste
    • coat hooks

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Prime and paint the old headboard with Americana® Acrylic color of your choice or leave it with its original finish.
    2. Patch any holes with spackling paste and sand off the excess with fine-grit sandpaper.
    3. Apply one coat of Clear Chalkboard Coating vertically. Allow to dry.
    4. Apply one coat of Clear Chalkboard Coating horizontally. Allow to dry.
    5. After 24 hours, condition the surface by rubbing chalk over it.
    6. Add coat hooks along the top where you choose.
    7. Lean the chalkboard coat rack against a wall and secure it with hook and eye closure to prevent it from tipping forward.
