Other supplies

  • water container
  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • E6000 glue (E6000)
  • 3/4" flat brush
  • chalk
  • wooden crate
  • 5" x 7" canvas panel
  • jingle bells
  • assorted ribbon (5 or 6 different widths and textures)
  • 5" x 7" frame (wooden; without glass)
  • black satin spray paint (Krylon)


  1. Spray paint the crate black and let dry.
  2. Use a 3/4" flat brush to paint the canvas Hauser Light Green and let dry.
  3. Once canvas is dry, apply a coat of Clear Chalkboard Coating vertically. Let dry and repeat with a horizontal coat of Clear Chalkboard Coating.
  4. Use a 3/4" flat brush and Napa Red to paint the frame. Rinse brush. Let frame dry completely.
  5. Attach the canvas to the crate with E6000 or other strong adhesive.
  6. Attach the frame over the canvas with E6000 and let dry for 24 hours.
  7. Tie ribbons of different widths and textures to the crate.
  8. Hang jingle bells on the bottoms of some ribbons.
  9. Use chalk to write on the canvas.


The crate can be used for Christmas books, presents, toys, greenery, or anything else you want to showcase.
