Create a whimsical Christmas angel mixed media canvas.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • 3/4" flat brush
    • #8 round brush
    • old book pages
    • #4 round brush
    • cosmetic sponge
    • palette knife
    • white paper
    • 12" x 16" canvas
    • shaving cream

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    MARBLING TECHNIQUE - Place shaving cream on a foam plate and smooth out flat with a palette knife. Drop a variety of paint colors of your choice from the list above. Use palette knife to swirl paint to make a marble look. Press paper/dress into it. Carefully lift and remove the shave cream with a pa

    1. Tear book pages and using a 3/4 flat brush adhere to canvas with Matte Decou-page

    3. Using 3/4 flat brush paint the background. (mix 2 parts paint with one part decou-page). Start at the top with Peacock Blue. Do not clean the brush and continue down with Dark Turquoise, then Turquoise. Rinse the brush and paint the foreground in Grape Taffy.

    5. Use a cosmetic sponge and randomly stencil the background. First in Peacock Blue, followed by White. Using a 3/4 flat brush paint paper in a variety of colors of you choice from above list. Use a dry brushing technique to achieve a dimensional look. Use scissor and pattern to cut out the shapes. Place on canvas and adhere with 3/4 flat brush and Matte Decou-page.

    7. Using the pattern paint the angel's gown on to white paper. (Dry brush the gown OR use marbling technique - found in notes) Colors of you choice from list above. I used, Dark Turquoise, Turquoise, Cherry Blossom Pink, Grape Taffy and Peacock Blue. Using a #8 round brush paint the hair in Grape Taffy and White.

    9. On a piece of white paper paint the angel's face using a #8 round brush in Medium Flesh and White. Use the same brush to paint the cheeks in Cherry Blossom Pink and the lips in Fun Fuchsia and White. Use the same brush to paint the eyes in White and Peacock Blue. Use a #4 brush to add highlights in White. Use a #4 brush to line the eyes and paint the lashes in Burnt Umber.
