Child's Color-Filled Stool

Use fun patterns and bold designs to add character and whimsey to a child-sized stool.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • ruler
    • pencil
    • wooden stool
    • fine-grit sandpaper
    • round object for tracing
    • #2 liner brush
    • #4 chisel brush
    • 1/2" flat brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry between steps.

    1. Use a ruler and a pencil to trace a round object approximately 8" in diameter on center of stool top.
    2. Draw a diamond pattern in the center of the circle using a pencil and a ruler. (Diamonds are 3" by 1-1/2".)
    3. With 1/2" flat brush, paint half of the diamonds with Escape and half with Treasure to make the desired pattern.
    4. Paint area outside the diamonds with New Life using 3/4" flat brush.
    5. Using #2 liner brush, draw a Carbon circle around the diamond-patterned circle.
    6. Measure 1/2 the way down the stool top edge and find the center. Draw circle around the perimeter using a pencil.
    7. Using 1/2" flat brush, paint Everlasting squares in a circle above and below the pencil line, creating a checkerboard effect.
    8. Fill in other squares with Carbon using 1/2" flat brush.
    9. Using 1/2" flat brush, paint very top and very bottom sections of legs with Rouge.
    10. Paint the center, largest section of legs Treasure using 3/4" flat brush.
    11. Using 1/2" flat brush, paint the small area above Rouge with New Life.
    12. With #2 liner brush, paint a thin Rouge strip at the top of the Treasure section.
    13. Paint the remaining area of the legs with Carbon.
    14. Using #4 chisel brush, paint Everlasting vertical stripes around Carbon area of the legs.
    15. Paint random polka dots on Treasure section of legs using Escape and #4 chisel brush.
    16. Using #4 chisel brush, paint random polka dots of Everlasting in the New Life border on the stool top.
    17. Using fine grit sandpaper, sand lightly to distress.
    18. Seal entire stool with with Light Satin Varnish.
