Butterfly Display Box

I love butterflies and architectural moldings, I decided to transform a paper mache shadow box into a Victorian style display case
Items Needed:
- DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Gesso - White (DMM18-71)
- DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Crackle Paste - White (DMM17-71)
- Shadow Box Frame
- Assorted Brushes
- Paper Clay Moldings
- Adhesive
- Embossed Card
- Baby Wipe
- Andy Skinner Crackle Stamp
- Permanent Black Stamp Ink
- Black And White Butterfly Print
Instructions:
Apply DecoArt Media White Gesso to the outside of the box frame, and apply Crackle paste with a palette knife to the face of the frame and allow to crack naturally for a couple of hours.
Apply paper clay decorative molding with a strong adhesive.
I applied Media Fluid Acrylic Metallic Gold to an embossed card and inserted it into the frame.
Apply Media acrylic Cobalt Teal and Burnt Umber, working it into areas of the frame and moldings.
Wipe back with a baby wipe to expose areas on the molding and crackle areas.
Once dry, apply more colour to define and blend areas.
Highlight the moldings with DecoArt Metallic Lustre Gold Rush.
Randomly distress the background of the box with Cobalt Teal and Burnt Umber.
Wipe back to reveal the gold and texture.
Apply Cobalt Teal and Burnt Umber in linear areas.
Once dry I stamped Andy Skinners Crackle Effect from the Toxic Set with permanent black ink.
I coloured the stamped butterfly with fluid acrylics, Cobalt Teal, Phthalo Green Blue and Metallic Gold.
Finished by lightly brushing with a variety of Media Interference colours to finish the beautiful butterfly
