Bookcase Turned Into Coffee Station

Transform an old bookcase into a fun and functional coffee station using Chalky Finish.

SUPPLIES

    • paper towels
    • ruler
    • pencil
    • lint-free cloth
    • painter's tape
    • 2" flat brush
    • screwdriver
    • disposable gloves
    • decorative paper
    • coat hooks

    • drop cloth
    • electric drill
    • stencil

    • 1" stencil brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Thoroughly clean bookcase with damp cloth and let dry.

    3. Choose paint colors. Shake jars and stir paint before use.

    5. Paint two coats of Timeless to entire surface using 2" flat brush and let dry.

    7. To create stripes, apply painter's tape to surface, creating a 3" wide and two 1" wide narrow strips. Extend tape across top and down both sides of bookcase. Use a pencil and ruler to get straight lines, if needed.

    9. Paint inside narrow spaces using dry-brush technique with Heritage and gently wipe with a wet paper towel. While paint is still wet, slowly peel away painter's tape.

    11. Choose your favorite stencil or create a stencil and place on wood surface. Using up and down motion, paint graphics with a stencil brush, using Carbon. Slowly and carefully lift off stencil while paint is still wet.
    12. Apply varnish with 2" flat brush.
    13. Measure shelf dimensions and cut decorative shelf paper to fit. Apply a coat of Outdoor Decou-Page to surface and apply paper. Smooth out any wrinkles and apply another coat of Decou-Page to surface. While the piece is not going outside, it will protect it against any spills or condensation.

    15. Drill five holes in the front of the bookcase and attach long hooks. Add coffee accessories including mugs, dish towels, and coffee canisters.
